Embera Tribe & Eco-adventure

From a City Hotel or Playa Bonita.

Ride a canoe up the Chagres River, walk to a jungle waterfall, and visit a traditional Embera village on a full-day trip from Panama City. Learn about traditional food, culture, and dances on this 7 hours tour, which includes pickup and drop-off at your Panama City hotel, transport, lunch, and snacks.

We start this tour at 8:00 am from any hotel in Panama City and will be back around 3:45 pm.

* Cruise along the waterways and lakes that make up the famous Chagres River & Gatun Lake

* Explore the indigenous cultures of one of our National Park aboard a dugout canoe.

* Enjoy lunch (Fish and plantains) and cultural presentations with members of the local Embera tribe.

* Great mix of sightseeing, wildlife, and traditional native culture.

Meet a driver at your centrally-located Panama City accommodations, then make the 1.5-hour drive from Panama City to the Chagres River, the largest river in the Panama Canal watershed.

Board a canoe for a 20-minute trip along the river, then stretch your legs on a short walk to a pond and waterfall. Bring a bathing suit if you’d like to swim in the waterfall, which is the perfect place to cool off from the tropical heat. Return to the canoe for the 45-minute ride to an Embera village: the Embera Indians have traditionally lived and worked at the edge of rivers, and are known throughout Panama for their distinctive songs, dances, and costumes.

You’ll have three hours to explore the village, get to know some local people, and learn about life in the Embera community. Sit down to a traditional Embera lunch, then watch a dance that depicts the Embera’s relationship with the natural world. Before departing the village, shop for traditional handicrafts and souvenirs made by the local people. Head back down the river by canoe, and meet the bus for the return trip to Panama City, where this tour concludes with drop-off at your hotel.
